Whether you are an experienced hiker or just somebody who wouldn’t say no to a peaceful walk in nature, then search no more. Lefkada is home to some of the most beautiful trails in all of the Ionian islands. The landscape of the island is full of stunning views, historical monuments, and unspoiled beauty. Also, in most parts of the island, you will discover nature’s wonders like small canyons, waterfalls with turquoise waters, and lush green forests. Below we have listed for you our top 5 trails in Lefkada.

1. Daphne Springs
Near the village of Syvros in the south of Lefkada, you will find some of the most beautiful springs of the island. The path to the springs starts just outside the village on the road leading to Vasiliki village. You will also see a sign saying “The Daphne Springs Waterfalls”. Walking from there, you find the springs, where a small river is formed, and it is full of small waterfalls and green, lush forest. After your hike here, we highly recommend visiting the Fabbrica Olive Museum, which is located next to the start of the hike and offers an amazing trip through the history of olive oil production.
Trail Length & Difficulty: The path is easy to navigate, though on the return, you will have to walk upslope, and it requires some physical effort.
Tip: The end of the path leads to the road again. There you can find a small stone water spring to fill your bottles with drinkable water.
2. Elati peak
Elati peak, standing at 1.184m, is the highest point of Lefkada and the second highest point in the Ionian Islands. Here, the landscape is wild and rocky due to the elevation and the strong winds of the area, however, it’s so unique that it feels like you are not in Lefkada anymore. Also, the place offers an amazing panoramic view from almost all sides of the island. To visit the place, you can park your car near the OTE Antennas that are in the area and then trek your way to the peak, as there is no actual path to it. You can also book a guided tour to the highest point of Lefkada from a local expert of the area.
Trail Length & Difficulty: The area is mostly rocky and harsh, so some experience and a good pair of sports or hiking shoes are required.
Tip: The area has almost no trees, so during the summer, be prepared for high temperatures and make sure to bring enough water with you.

3. Nydri waterfalls
Near Nydri village in the east of Lefkada, you will find the path to the waterfalls of Nydri. The waterfalls have been famous lately due to their turquoise waters and the amazing canyon-like landscape of the area. If you visit them in the summer, don’t forget to also bring your swimsuit, as there are some puddles where you can cool down after the hike. Also, make sure to come here early in the morning, as the path and the area get a lot of traffic later. Any time of year you visit the Nydri waterfalls, it’s one of the best trails in Lefkada.
Trail Length & Difficulty: The trail is easy to navigate and reguires only a little physical effort. Also, the path is mostly protected by shade, so it is suitable to visit in summer.
Tip: Come here early in the morning when the area i still mostly empty of people.
4. Melissa gorge
Going from the main city of Lefkada to the village of Lazarata, you will meet the Melissa gorge. At the start of the path of Melissa gorge, you will find a small traditional stone bridge. Then, a little further, you will find the natural springs of the area that form the local stream. From there, you can follow the path in the forest that goes along the stream. The path offers some gorgeous views in the wild nature of Lefkada while being close to the city of Lefkada.
Trail Length & Difficulty: Even though the path is easy to walk, extra attention is required as it has been abandoned for some years now. Some of the bridges on the path are destroyed, and sometimes it’s hard to find the signage. You can find updates about the situation of the hike here.
Tip: In the start of the path,next to the springs there is a small stone water spring that you can fill your water bottles from.

4. Former Nato radar station of Lefkada
Although it’s not exactly a hike, as you can easily reach with your car here, the former nato radar station is the perfect spot for some exploration in the mountains of Lefkada. Located near the village of Egklouvi, the place offers an amazing opportunity to have a free tour of the past of Lefkada. Also, the area offers some amazing views of most parts of the island. If you come here, make sure to also visit the Church of the Prophet Elias for some more amazing views. We also recommend that you book a guided hike around the village of Eglouvi with a local guide to discover all the hidden gems of the area.
Trail Length & Difficulty: Navigating the area is mostly easy, and you can reach here with your car. However, attention is required as the facilities have been abandoned for a lot of years now, and some of the places may pose dangers.
Tip: If you come here, make sure to also visit the village of Eglouvi, where you can taste some of the tastiest lentils in Greece
