Lefkada is one of the most breathtaking islands in Greece! It is also one of the few islands connected to mainland Greece via a bridge. Even though there is no Airport located directly on it, reaching it is fairly easy. Preveza Airport, also referred to as Aktion National Airport, is the closest airport to Lefkada.
The Preveza airport(IATA code: PVK) is located in the region of Aitoloakarnania and it is only 20 kilometers outside Lefkada Town. In addition the airport was recently renovated and usually it provides a frequent connection with all major European cities in the summer. Even though it is a small airport, it provides all the amenities and the safety standards for convenient and safe travel.
Transportation from Preveza Airport to Lefkada:
- Taxi: It should take about 25-30 minutes for a taxi journey between Aktion Airport and Lefkada Town, costing approximately €30. You can usually find a taxi directly outside the Preveza airport.
- Hire a car: The most convenient way to reach Lefkada from Preveza airport and to enjoy the island is to hire a car. You can easily find a car to book from the airport here.
- Bus: There is a bus service between the airport and Lefkada Town provided by KTEL. It is about 30-40 minutes‘ journey, for which the ticket costs 4€ per individual. Bus frequency is poor, so it is better to check the timetable in advance.

The airport of Ioannina city is located approximately 97 kilometers away. The drive from here takes approximately 3 hours.
Patras Araxos Airport (code: GPA):
The aiport of Patra, the third biggest city in Greece is situated approximately 98 kilometers away from Lefkada. The drive from here takes approximately 3 hours.
Both of those options require long drives in order to access Lefkada. However, you can combine your visit to Lefkada with other sightseeing in Western Greece. In case you want to explore the best out of Greece we strongly suggest renting out a car as it is the best and most convenient way to travel in Greece, especially in the summer.

Athens aiport to Lefkada
It is also possible to reach Lefkada from Athens either by bus or by car. The drive to hear takes usually 3:30 hours, and there are also a few bus shuttles every week connecting the two cities. We strongly suggest renting a car as it will be the most convenient way to reach Lefkada at your pace and to also see some more sights along the way!
